ClickFunnels Vs. Leadpages: The Differences

ClickFunnels and Leadpages are two top-rated marketing sites that have been proven to turn site visits into revenue. But how do these sites differ, and how should you choose which one is the right website for you and your business?

ClickFunnels is specifically optimized to take your customer from the landing page and funnel them to your final goal, typically resulting in a sale. Leadpages is a landing page or series of landing pages where businesses can market and collect information that their customers supply.

Both of these programs offer a bevy of services and functionality. Keep reading for all of the differences and how you and your business can take advantage of their services.

ClickFunnels Explained

ClickFunnels works differently than a typical website. Instead of letting the visitor be a passive user, it forces them to be active.

Where a standard website may offer goods and services, it forces the customer to find the information. There will be various tabs, maybe an about us section, and even a place where you can purchase something. However, it is up to the customer to navigate and choose the path they take, which might lead to a sale, but might not.

The idea of funnels is that they guide the user experience. The user is led to whatever goal you have set through a series of pages and links.

The idea is conversion.

Always have them leave your page, having taken advantage of the plan you have set for your website.

This goal doesn’t necessarily have to be a sale, though when people hear of funnels, that is usually their initial thought.

Instead, you can use funnels for:

  • Lead Generation
  • Webinar Sign-ups
  • Giveaways
  • Email Capture
  • Upsell Customers
  • Create New Customers

Composition of a Funnel

The way that the funnel works will vary by each business and what service they are offering. The ClickFunnels website gives a generalization of the five essential elements that will make up a funnel.

  • Landing Page: This page introduces that product and seeks to capture some customer information.
  • Sales Page: Solidifies why you need the product being offered and converts interest into sales.
  • Collect Money: Customer pays for your product or service.
  • Upsell/Down sell: Offer an additional product that complements the initial purchase and can be bought with the click of a button.
  • Product Delivery: Deliver the product and maintain contact with customers on additional goods or services.

Services Offered on ClickFunnels

No Need to Code

One of the most significant advantages of using this service is you don’t have to have any familiarity with coding language like HTML.

Previously, for those of us who weren’t familiar with coding, we would have to hire people to build our websites. Needless to say, this can get very expensive.

Even after you had the site built, you would have to keep paying for site maintenance or to make any other changes that you saw necessary—the more changes, the more money out of your pocket and taken away from your profits.

ClickFunnels takes the coding out of the equation and allows you to make simple formatting changes with drag and drop features within their page editor. You can make as many changes as you see necessary and do so without relying on an IT team.

Prebuilt Templates

ClickFunnels not only make formatting changes simple, but they take it a step further by having a series of prebuilt templates. These templates are created with specific services in mind, based on the highest conversion rates. You’ll be able to choose a layout with confidence knowing that it has helped successfully sell products in your field.

This site lets you choose a template and drag and drop your information in the corresponding locations. Even those who aren’t the most tech-savvy will find this system a breeze and a pleasure to use.

Some of the features that you can drag and drop are:

  • Images
  • Videos
  • Headlines
  • Order Elements
  • Countdowns
  • Pop-ups
  • Lists

There are hundreds of more sales tools that you can incorporate into your design. The best part is that all of your funnel pages can be built in a matter of hours. Typically, what would have been sourced to someone else and taken weeks, can now be localized and done in less than a working day.

Split Testing

One of the coolest and most useful features of ClickFunnels is the split testing functionality that they integrate.

Even for those who are design geniuses, getting layouts perfect the first time isn’t likely. Even if you are delighted with your layout, you can run into an issue not resonating with your clientele.

That is why split testing is so handy.

Split testing allows you to make different design choices on your pages. Say, for instance, you make a change to the design or content, split testing allows you to see the performance of each version of your layout, to see if one was more successful than the other. If you notice that one is overwhelmingly more successful, you can make this the only option.

As the business owner, you may not necessarily be as happy with the layout. However, as long as you receive clicks and purchases, that’s the end goal. Split testing takes the guesswork out of these taxing decisions.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

All business owners need to be aware of metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs). Without the use of metrics, they don’t have a realistic idea of how high the conversion rate is for those who visit their website. They also don’t know critical information such as gross profit, website traffic, and shopping cart abandonment.

ClickFunnels has a tab in their customer dashboard called stats that has all of these metrics.  These indicators can help see areas where tactics are working and where you could be doing a better job. Once you see your weaker areas, you have a direct pipeline of how to improve things.

Additional Services

There are a few more services that ClickFunnels uses to make your life even easier.

Email Integration

ClickFunnels allows you to use their software to build your email list and send out pertinent information. This feature is especially helpful since most businesses are looking to acquire email addresses from customers and prospective customers.

ClickFunnels also works with some of the most popular email marketing services. This integration is, of course, beneficial for those who already have a dedicated service. Some of the most popular services that you can integrate are:

  • Constant Contact
  • HubSpot
  • MailChimp
  • Salesforce

There are tons of other options, so you know that no matter what, you’ll be able to reach your customers while having the convenience of the rest of the ClickFunnel services.

Payment Integration

Every business owner has a preferred payment method for their business. Luckily, there is a large assortment of payment gateways that are supported by this program. Some of the more popular options are:

  • PayPal
  • ClickBank
  • Stripe
  • Deal Guardian

It can be challenging to get people to switch payment gateways because finding a partner you truly trust is difficult. With ClickFunnels, you don’t have to worry about sweating the small details. Instead, you can focus on supplying a great product and collecting money.

Lead Magnets

One of the best ways to secure your customers’ email addresses is through lead magnets. For those unfamiliar, lead magnets are items such as:

  • Printables
  • eBooks
  • Tutorials

Customers are offered these items for free in return for their email address.

ClickFunnels has add-ons that will automatically send these magnets to your customers through their service or your chosen email integration. With the customer’s email address, you have the ability to:

  • Provide them with useful information
  • Market your current products
  • Market to them in the future

The wide breadth of email integration that’s available through ClickFunnels makes these enhancements even more valuable. Business people wouldn’t be happy if they had access to an extensive email list they couldn’t market to through their funnel. The integration of these popular marketing tools really makes ClickFunnels a one-stop-shop.

Leadpages Explained

Leadpages is a landing page creator that allows anyone to make beautiful landing pages to help with marketing efforts. The best part is the prebuilt templates that will enable you to simply drag and drop your media tools and information into place.

This function is very similar to that of ClickFunnels. Leadpages gives multiple options where you can either choose from a prebuilt template or build your own. The prebuilt templates don’t have a ton of customization, but they are very reliable and straightforward to use.

If you’re interested in a more custom page, you’ll have to create your own. Creating your landing page is extremely useful and a ton of fun for those who are creative.

However, people have had a few complaints about the ease of use for this system and a few other “buggy” issues. It isn’t the most user-friendly system, so you’ll have to be kind of technologically proficient.

Analytics Dashboard

Like ClickFunnels, Leadpages gives you all the analytical feedback you could desire to ensure that you are capitalizing on each page visit. The dashboard is streamlined for ease of use. You can very quickly see some of the most important metrics that you need to enhance your sales.

Unfortunately, being so streamlined can be a double-edged sword.

It is somewhat more simplified than the offering from ClickFunnels. The information is useful and will assist you in your growth but is slightly less expansive than their competitors’.

Conversion Toolkit

Leadpages has a series of features that they call their conversion toolkit.

The offerings in the toolkit are the counter to the funnel system used by ClickFunnels. Whereas the funnel has all of these items built into one selling device, the conversion toolkit is a series of options that you can choose from to help convert visits into sales:

  • Alert Bars: Alert bars are flashy banners that can be placed at the top or bottom of your page as a call to action for your customers. They can either trigger a sale or ask the customer to sign-up with their email.
  • Pop-Ups: These pop-ups can sit on your landing page right when someone arrives at your site or can be triggered based on various actions by the customer (scrolling, exiting, time on page, etc.)
  • Trigger Links: Segment your customers into specific email marketing categories based on what they visit on your site.
  • LeadDigits: Unique feature allows you to have customers opt-in to receive texts or submit their email as a sign-up through SMS messages.

All of the items in Leadpages’ conversion toolkit are also available through ClickFunnels, in one form or another. These features are simply built in to the funnel rather than you having to add various options to your landing page.

Split Testing

Just like ClickFunnels, Leadpages has a split testing feature. Again, this feature lets you test an A page against a B page and see how they compare against the other. If one page performs better, then that’s the page that resonates better with your customers and the one you should use.

Leadpages does have a feature that takes this a step further. It’s called Leadmeter.

Leadmeter

Leadmeter is a beneficial feature for those who like instant gratification. This tool gives you instant feedback when you make changes to your site. This feedback comes in the form of a meter that ranks how successful the change was that you made.

Whether it’s your color contrast, your layout, or how optimized your page is, each one has a bar on a sliding scale from poor to excellent. You’ll also receive some tips on how you can improve your landing page, which we certainly all need from time to time.

You Won’t Know Until You Try!

Before we get into the specifics of how much each of these fantastic services cost, you should know that you can try them risk-free. Both Leadpages and ClickFunnels offer 14-day free trials so you can feel confident in choosing the right service for your business.

One of the largest deterrents to a business is committing resources on a product or service that they aren’t familiar with and don’t know if they’ll benefit. It only amplifies these concerns when you commit to a service and find out later that you don’t like the options.

Here’s our link to ClickFunnels’ 14-day free trial. You can fully familiarize yourself with the full package of details and benefits without the fear of being locked into a plan. We’re confident that you’ll be satisfied once you try these products, but you still have the confidence knowing you can vet them for yourself.

Pricing

This section should help clear things up for all those savvy business people reading this and doing your own internal cost-benefit analysis. Both services offer a variety of packages that can fit any budget/needs of the company.

Leadpages Pricing

Leadpages has a three-tier pricing structure that provides you with options for paying monthly or yearly. Paying a yearly fee will save you a relatively significant amount of money, but since it’s billed annually, there’s a high upfront cost. The pricing structure is as follows:

  • Standard
    • Monthly: $37.00
    • Yearly: $27.00
  • Pro
    • Monthly: $79.00
    • Yearly: $59.00
  • Advanced
    • Monthly: $321.00
    • Yearly: $239.00

With the yearly packages, you also receive the added benefit of three months free.

Differences Between Tiers

The price differences between these tiers are certainly not insignificant. But what do you get for the extra cost?

With all three plans, there a few constants:

  • Access to landing pages
  • Access to more than 40 standard integrations
  • Free hosting
  • Custom domain (Annual purchase required)
  • Access to pop-ups
  • Access to alert bars
  • Unlimited traffic
  • Tech Support
    • Standard: Email communication only
    • Pro: Chat and email communication
    • Advanced: Priority phone support

Everything else that will follow this section is not included with the standard package.

Higher Levels

When you upgrade to the Pro plan, you gain access to:

  • Two more sites
  • Online sales options
  • Split testing
  • Email triggers
  • Ten opt-in text campaigns.

As you move up further to the Advanced version, you get everything previously stated. You also receive:

  • Up to 50 sites
  • Advanced integrations
  • 40 more text campaigns
  • Sub accounts
  • 1 – on – 1 call to get you started

You can use a free trial with any of the three options. If, for instance, you try the Pro and realize that it doesn’t have all of the integrations that you find necessary for your business, you’ll know you want to upgrade to the Advanced or try another system.

ClickFunnels Pricing

ClickFunnels currently has a two-tier pricing structure as opposed to the three-tier of Leadpages. At one point, ClickFunnels had a third tier, but it isn’t currently available. There also isn’t a discounted price if you pay yearly versus monthly since there is no option for paying yearly. ClickFunnels have one flat rate for their plans.

  • Standard: $97.00
  • Platinum: $297.00

Added Benefits of Platinum

Upgrading to Platinum provides the user with several benefits. With the standard version of ClickFunnels, you can only create 20 funnels. The Platinum version changes that to an unlimited amount.

The pages allowed are also limited to 100 within the standard version of ClickFunnels. This limitation makes sense when you think about how many pages typically comprise a funnel. Again, as you’d probably expect, the Platinum plan gives you access to unlimited pages.

The standard ClickFunnels package limits:

  • Sub users
  • Payment Gateways
  • Domains

Peer reviews from the community and the beneficial follow-up funnels feature are available only in the Platinum plan.

Both plans include:

  • Chat support
  • Community forum
  • Video resources

Though these features are available with both plans, they are enhanced when you upgrade to Platinum.

With the Platinum plan you’ll also receive hours of additional visual learning resources and priority support.

Again, if you’re unsure of which plan will work for your needs, you can take advantage of the 14-day free trial. You may want to use the trial on the Standard program, so you’ll know whether the features offered will satisfy your needs.

If you don’t believe they will, again, you’ll want to think about upgrading your plan.

If you don’t believe they will, again, you’ll want to think about upgrading your plan.

Differences Between ClickFunnels and Leadpages

There aren’t very many significant differences between these two services. As time has gone on, they have both made tweaks to their offerings based on customer needs. Now it is at the point that they are very similar and can satisfy the same group of businesspeople.

That is certainly not to say that they are exactly alike.

The Bottom Line About ClickFunnels

ClickFunnels, as the name suggests, have made their niche all about the simple creation of funnels to increase conversion rates. This type of sales tactic is more akin to a hard sell. Hard selling is not a term that has a great connotation, but it is effective.

No, you don’t have to purchase anything from the seller. You are, however, being guided quite clearly to the end goal of the business. From a business’s perspective, this is the ultimate goal and a proven tool using this method.

Leadpages’ Difference

Leadpages, on the other hand, is more about creating optimized landing pages. Landing pages can be a handy tool for information collecting but may not be as strong at getting customers to buy a product. Landing pages are more closely aligned with a webpage that provides you with information.

Yes, Leadpages gives you the conversion tools necessary to obtain information and maybe even sell some products, but they don’t focus solely on leading the customer to the finish line.

Both these sites offer the same services. ClickFunnels simply takes it a step further by providing you with readymade funnels to better convert visits into sales.

Expense

Something that businesses shouldn’t focus on too much between these two products is cost. ClickFunnels doesn’t offer a service that is as inexpensive as Leadpages’ first two plans. However, they are also offering a service that Leadpages isn’t.

Both of these services are reasonably priced in the long scheme of things, especially when this is your entire marketing and IT budget rolled into one.

For those who are solely budget minded, the choice will be simple. For those who see the added value in the funnel system, then ClickFunnels is the choice.

The critical thing for you and your business is trying each service to see which one works best for you. It might come down to a factor as simple as which user interface you prefer. These variables are only determined through use.

Luckily, you can give them both a try before committing to either.

Affiliate Programs

We didn’t talk about this feature earlier, but both programs offer an affiliate program that can be quite lucrative. For those unfamiliar, an affiliate is someone who receives a commission for getting people to sign up for the site.

Both of these sites offer an excellent commission, but ClickFunnels is slightly higher. ClickFunnels provides a 40% commission paid out monthly, while Leadpages offers 30% paid monthly.

Drag and Drop

Both programs eliminate the need to know how to code, which benefits the business owner. Based on some reviews, if you go outside of the standard range of templates offered on Leadpages and into the semi-custom drag-and-drop field, it can be a little challenging.

Click here for a FREE two-week ClickFunnels trial, a FREE ClickFunnels course, and over 10 done-for-you funnels!

People have reported difficulty operating the various functions as well as things being “buggy.”

The standard options work well, even when making changes. Unfortunately, Leadpages’ drag and drop options’ difficulty somewhat defeats the purpose of using this program. Besides the buggy features, if you are a little more technologically inclined, you may not see the system’s operation as difficult.

With ClickFunnels’ program, there haven’t been many reports of issues within the design interface. Again, you may prefer one interface over the other. Just make sure you give them both a try to find the perfect selling solution for your business.

Final Thoughts

There isn’t necessarily a better system that we would recommend between Leadpages and ClickFunnels. These programs are so similar, with ClickFunnels having the added benefit of having a proven funnel sales system based on your business type. Once you create your funnel, you won’t have to do anything else; you can let the funnel do the work for you.

If you want any more information on the best uses of ClickFunnels, check out some more articles here. Our site has really informative articles that will help you gain an edge up on the competition.

With that said, again, we recommend you give each program a chance through their 14-day trial. We personally prefer the added benefits gained from ClickFunnels, but each user may have a different experience. Give both programs a chance first, and you may find they offer everything you’re searching for in a partner.

Everyone will have their preference, and both are more than suitable, so give them a shot and see your profits grow.
